My name is Michael Wehr, I am a 48 year old Triathlete. I started seeing Jason at Emerge Fitness 6 months ago in response to injuries over the years of working out, not always with the best of form. After visiting with Jason, we set up a schedule and began retraining my body to work the way it was intended to.
We had a big job. Between shoulder pain and my hamstrings not firing right it took a little time and a lot of effort on my part to get things back in order. I would see Jason for one hour every week at first and do his exercises every day between visits. We worked up to every other week were we are fine tuning my routines.
I’m pleased to announce that after 6 months I have seen dramatic improvement in my over all functionality and little to no pain in my shoulders. My thanks goes out to Jason and the team at Emerge Fitness.
I arrived at Emerge Fitness with the goal of “getting in shape” and improving my fitness level, but really, the bottom line for me was I wanted to lose weight. I had a disc issue with my neck that was making it very difficult for me to consistently engage in any physical activity. I heard that the trainers at Emerge were very good at working with people who had injury issues. So I started working with Matt Wirth, and the results have been better than I ever could have imagined.
We started with such basic exercises that I was surprised at how effective they were at building strength to improve my neck pain. As my neck improved, we were able to expand the strength training, and I am able to do things now that I’ve never been able to do before. Matt knew what I could do without hurting myself. He has been really good about teaching me proper form and monitoring me throughout each training session and correcting my form to prevent injury. There have been many times when he has asked me to do something that I’m not sure I can do, but he has instructed me and encouraged me, and I’ve succeeded! In addition to the strength and fitness training, he has also provided nutrition instruction and taught me how to make smarter choices about food
The combination of better nutrition and exercise has resulted in that weight loss I was looking for. I lost 65 pounds in one year of working with Matt. But I gained so much more. I have more strength, more energy, and more confidence in my abilities. I am a better role model for my nine year old daughter, which I now realize is so important. My quality of life is so greatly improved that it amazes me. There was a time when I thought I couldn’t afford to work with a personal trainer; but now I realize I couldn’t afford not to.
In October 2010, I was experiencing severe back and leg pain due to a herniated disc in my lower back. After numerous visits with multiple doctors and steroid injections in the spine, round-the-clock painkillers and muscle relaxers, I still found it difficult to do things as simple as putting on my own socks. By February, I had had enough and was ready to concede to back surgery. Meanwhile, my husband had been doing some personal training with Kimberly at Emerge; and during the course of a casual conversation, she suggested I see Dr. Matt Lytle at Precision Health Group. I pessimistically agreed to try one more thing before setting up the surgery. I began seeing Dr. Lytle on February 23. After three weeks, his treatment helped tremendously, and I was soon cutting back on some of my prescriptions.
Dr. Lytle suggested I go to Emerge in order to build my core and increase relief from my symptoms. I started working with Angie on March 21 while continuing to see Dr. Lytle. By April 5, I was no longer taking any prescriptions. In February, I couldn’t stand to be in a car for 5 minutes; but in early May, I took a couple OTC and was able to sit on a plane for four hours. As I write this, I am heading to Texas tomorrow and not even packing any pain relievers. Thanks, Angie and Kim at Emerge for your part in helping my get my life back!!!
A while back I hurt my shoulder so I went to see a physical therapist. After many visits nothing seemed to work. I started working with Nick my personal trainer and it was like having surgery with no scars. Since then, I not only can use my shoulder but I have seen a dramatic change in the way I look and feel about myself. I am now tone and have muscles at the young age of 51.
