College/High School Athletes

"Training at Emerge, through my customized hypertrophy, strength, power and functional phases has not only made my core stronger then ever, but has transformed me into a better athlete; feeling much more agile and balanced. Because of Matt Pirtle and Emerge, I am more confident then ever going into my final collegiate season.

I became more balanced which helped me on the soccer field. I became much stronger which allowed me to not get pushed off the ball as easily.

"I started training with Adam in my sophomore year when I was 15. I came to him with some prior training at other facilities around the area, but was looking for something different that would advance my level of play. I consulted with him every couple of weeks and he would instruct certain hockey specific exercises as well as a plan to increase my overall size. After more than a year of consistent training, my weight went from 165 to 190. My body fat did not change and my legs were like tree trunks. I added lean muscle and my game instantly projected to another level. I can say that the knowledge and application in particular strength and conditioning exercises at Emerge, gave me the ability to train to my potential, which I did not achieve at other facilities.

It was hard work, but it was still fun. I noticed a huge improvement in my strength in both basketball and soccer.

My goal while training with Matt was to increase my game and be the best that I can be. I am stronger, faster, and I jump higher. I am more of a dominant force and not just a tall kid in there to get rebounds. Training at Emerge has been an experience that I will never forget and I thank Matt for everything.

Emerge, Thanks for putting together the perfect program to make me stronger and more efficient for the long haul. You keep it fresh and fun and I always look forward to feeling the burn.

Emerge made me a much stronger runner. Before I started working out at Emerge, my upper body would feel much fatigue mid-race which would cause my form to become sloppy and inefficient. With more upper body and core strength, I was able to push up the hills much harder on cross country courses and finish stronger on the track. Besides drastically dropping my times, Emerge also increased my overall confidence in myself.

In the high school world of Track & Field, it is all about having that competitive advantage. To gain that advantage, I chose to seek out a personal trainer. From the first consultation, I learned two things about Keelin Russell:

1. She was comfortable to talk to and training with her would be a positive experience.
2. This trainer knew what she was doing, and she was going to prepare me for track season.

Come a few months later, everything I had expected turned out to be true. Each time I came, she had a new workout, and I have to say I never got bored. These workouts were tough, but with every session also came toner arms, stronger legs, and more endurance.

At the beginning of track, I dodged that initial stage where you feel gassed after running the warm-up laps, and I jumped right to focusing on my technique and getting down hand offs. The year before, I was unable to run to my full potential in the 400m because I had not developed the muscle mass and endurance that is so essential when running both a sprint and distance race.

However, at the very first meet, just a few weeks after the season started, I broke my PR in the 400m and was eventually put back in my team’s 4x400m.  Little accomplishments like these occurred all throughout the year and slowly led to two medals at the Missouri State Track and Field meet in the 4x100m and 4x400m. I can with 100% assurance say this would not have happened if I had not sought out Keelin Russell as my personal trainer.

While I truly loved the athletic accomplishments that came out of my experience at Emerge Fitness, the physical results were a reward of its own. After one hour on Saturday and one thirty-minute session on a weekday my body was in the best shape it had ever been, and in addition, I took pride in the mental obstacles I had to overcome to get there. Even though my track career ended in May 2016, my fitness life does not have to, and I plan to continue a “track standard” of physical health because it makes me feel good both mentally and physically.

Thank You Emerge Fitness!

My senior year of high school I finally decided to join the track team. I had played soccer for six years previously, but I still needed a lot of help if I was going to make it to State in an entirely new sport in just 8 months. I first heard of Keelin from a friend of mine who had previously competed at state as a sprinter. During my consultation with Keelin, I knew immediately that she could help me reach my goal as an athlete.

For the first couple months, I trained by myself for an hour twice a week. The exercises I did each week had a specific purpose, but effective in multiple areas of the body. Her workouts are the perfect balance between building skills and strength for what I was going to be doing in the near future. When I was tired, Keelin was always encouraging me. As a person with flat arches in my feet, I was worried about over working my muscles. But throughout trainings and state, I never had a problem with them because of the specific exercises I was taught to keep my body more durable in the areas that might give me problems.

Some of the most effective trainings were the ones I did with my sister. As an athlete I like the competition, and once my sister was able to do pair trainings with me I started to push myself more. For the last two months Keelin structured our trainings in such a way that my sister and I could push each other to become better athletes. By the time high school track rolled around, I felt confident in my abilities.

Because I had trained in the off season with Keelin, I was able to try any event in track and know the potential I had for each of them. During my first year on the varsity track team I ran the 4x100m, 4x200m, and the 300m hurdles. My team and I broke the 4x100m record and I was able to break a 13 year-old 300m hurdle record several times before the regular season ended. My last goal was also reached when my 4x100m relay placed 5th at State and I became an All State athlete. Both my parents and I agree, that without the hard off season training and advice from Keelin, my track season would not have had the results it did. From beginning to end Keelin was there cheering me on. At state Keelin came by to wish my sister and I luck before our race, and I remembered all the hard work and practice that had brought me to the amazing moment I was experiencing.
